British Cycling is the Governing Body of Cycle Sport in the UK as recognised by the Sports Council. It is resposible for regulating Road Racing, Track Racing, Mountain Bike Racing, BMX events and Cycle Speedway. It publishes a quarterly magazine (free to members) providing details of Road, Track and MTB races, BMX and Cycle Speedway events to be held during the year.

Cycle Time Trials (formerly known as Road Time Trials Council) controls the time trialing on the roads of England and Wales. It publishes an annual handbook (price £4.50) providing details of Open and Semi-open time trials (but not club events) to be held during the year.

The Cyclists' Touring Club provides services to touring cyclists and promotes cycling issues nationally. It also provides a network of local branches which organise rides and social activities.

The North Lancashire Road Club was founded in 1950 as a racing offshoot of the North Lancashire District Association of the Cyclists' Touring Club. In 1980 it gave up restricted membership qualification (i.e. CTC members only) in order to develop as a racing club in its own identity.

The League of Veteran Racing Cyclists organises Road Races (and occasional Time Trials and Track Meetings) for cyclists over 40 years of age. Events are run on an age related basis with riders competing in age bands. A handbook and calender of events is included in the annual cost of membership.

The Veterans Time Trials Association organises Time Trials for riders over 40 years of age under CTT regulations. Prizes are awarded in age bands based on actual time and on time relative to a "Standard Time" for the rider's age.

Lakes and Lancs Spoco organises a series of events, each run by member clubs, based on 'sporting' courses away from busy main roads. Some of the events are quite hilly.

Scottish Cycling promotes cycle racing in Scotland.
